Mikeal Béland

SEATTLE, Washington
& NEW YORK CITY, United States

Mikeal Béland is a photographer and mixed media artist from the Rocky Mountain milieus of Southern Montana. Born to a lineage of pioneers who settled the American west, his family helped shape an appreciation and love of wilderness in the natural world. A classically trained pianist, Eagle Scout, and 4-H champion, he attended Clark University in Massachusetts before transferring to the University of Washington in Seattle for Comparative History and Visual Arts. His early photography achieved multiple award-winning accolades.

In 2008, he embarked on a documentary expedition across the Western United States and Pacific Coast documenting wildfires and deforestation, habitat destruction and the state of America's National Parks and Public Lands in the twenty-first century. After moving to New York in September, he began working under fashion photographer Andrea Blanch, protégé of the famed Richard Avedon. His public debut in Manhattan was at the OUTAuction NYC at the Metropolitan Pavillion on November 23, 2008. Mikeal currently lives and works in New York City.
