Mediterranean Lullaby

by Linda Simone | 2005

We scoff at mosquitoes,
choose to sleep under sheets
cool as gelati
screenless windows thrown wide
to the rhythmic feet
of the sea.

Even Joe sleeps better here
but still wakes first.
I lean out our window,
see him on the far veranda
bent over wrought iron
bidding the salty lady his private buon giorno.
